Using Instagram to plan your wedding

Instagram is a wonderful little app, and it’s not just good for funny memes and pictures of cute kittens. It’s also a powerful tool to help you plan your wedding as it is brimming with inspirational content and talented wedding professionals who are all about creating gorgeous content to showcase their brand on social media. Move over, Pinterest! Here are some of my favourite tips to help you use Instagram to plan your wedding:

Seek out relevant hashtags, and follow them!

Did you know that you can search Instagram using hashtags and key words? Instagram runs on a powerful algorithm which allows you to search for pretty much anything. Have a think about the type of wedding you are hoping to have and think about some of the search terms you might plug into Google. The same applies to Instagram hashtags: #citywedding #letterpressinvitations #coolbride #londonwedding are some of my favourites.

You can also follow hashtags, which will ensure relevant, curated content pops up in your feed to continue to inspire you!

Follow your favourite accounts

Are there accounts that jump out at you time and again, or really wow you when you scroll past their posts? Then give them a follow, and you’ll see gorgeous content delivered straight to your feed whenever they post. Don’t forget to “like” posts that resonate with you as this will help Instagram learn what content you particularly like, and ensure you don’t miss posts from your favourite accounts. I particularly love following wedding planners and stylists as they offer all-round inspiration from venues and flowers to stationery and dresses, and they often offer up useful planning tips for free on their posts too.

Don’t forget to check the vendor credits in photos - planners and stylists especially work across the industry, so you may well see your dream supplier pop up on their feed. These are some of my favourites:

Save posts that you really love

Ever found yourself scrolling and scrolling for that post you saw this morning that was absolutely amazing and now you can’t find it anywhere and you need it to show your planner? Well there’s an easy solution to this: save your favourite posts! Click the little “bookmark symbol at the bottom right of the post. This saves the post for you and means that you can access them at the drop of a hat, whenever you want to revisit that content or find that amazing piece of inspiration.

Create Collections from your “saves”

This is where things start to get really clever: you can sort your saves into different collections! Trying out different styles of flowers? Create a collection called “flowers” where all the floral inspiration is saved to. If you do the same for other aspects of your wedding planning, like “table plans”, “table styling”, “bar inspo”, “dresses”, “rings” etc, you’ll find you have an easy to access library stuffed full of glorious inspiration. Once you’ve created the Collection, you can add to it by selecting posts from the “All Posts” section. To add to an existing Collection, select the Collection, click the three dots in the top right corner, and select “Add to Collection” - this will allow you to add new posts from your “saves”.

This is also super helpful when showing potential suppliers what you are looking for, as you can simply jump to the relevant collection and show them exactly what you love!

Found your perfect supplier?

Instagram isn’t just filled with glorious inspiration, your dream suppliers are almost certainly using the platform to showcase their gorgeous work. If you find your perfect florist, invitation designer or dressmaker on Instagram, do get in touch via DM and start up a conversation! We love hearing from people who love our work as it inspires us to keep creating, and it’s a good way to find out if we’re the right supplier for you. Bonus: we will be delighted to know that our Instagram content is working!
