Heritage and Romance at Brympton House

Real Wedding: Kat & Zac

Bride and groom walking hand in hand outside Brympton House, a Grade I listed Elizabethan manor in Somerset, during their destination wedding.

There are weddings that sparkle with beauty, and then there are those that feel like true heirlooms in the making. Kat & Zac’s celebration at Brympton House was one of those rare days: a wedding that wove together heritage, family symbolism, and timeless design, set against the grandeur of one of Somerset’s most enchanting country estates.

Kat, an American bride, and Zac, who is Welsh and Egyptian, live in the US but dreamed of a quintessentially English wedding experience. With most of their guests travelling from abroad, it was very much a destination wedding; an opportunity to share England’s heritage and countryside charm with friends and family. Brympton, with its Elizabethan architecture and sweeping grounds, provided the perfect setting for that vision.

Brympton House: An Icon of Somerset Romance

Often described as the most beautiful house in England, Brympton House is a Grade I listed manor with origins in the 13th century. Its Elizabethan façade, landscaped gardens, and lakeside views create an atmosphere of timeless English romance. From ceremonies in the Castle House chapel to receptions in the grand Ballroom, Brympton offers couples a seamless journey through spaces rich with character and history.

For Kat & Zac, the venue embodied everything they wanted their international guests to experience: heritage, English country charm, and a setting where history and love stories intertwine. For many, it was their first visit to Somerset, and Brympton offered the kind of romantic countryside setting that feels lifted straight from a storybook.

Bespoke Stationery: A Family Story in Print

Family was at the heart of this wedding – from Kat wearing her mother’s gown for the first part of the day, to a moving tribute to Zac’s late father in the order of service. I wanted the stationery to carry that same depth of meaning, weaving their story into every detail.

Elegant letterpress wedding stationery with a Brympton House illustration, floral toile envelope liner, and navy blue accents.

We began with the save the dates, each featuring a hand-drawn illustration of Brympton House – a perfect introduction to the venue and the celebration to come. For the invitations, I designed a bespoke toile pattern, bringing together floral symbols from both sides of the family: roses and hydrangeas for Kat’s American heritage, daffodils for Zac’s Welsh roots, and lotus flowers for his Egyptian lineage.

The toile became the liner inside each envelope, offering a hidden moment of discovery as guests opened their invitations. The suite was printed exclusively in letterpress, with varied cardstock colours to bring depth to the single-colour design. Alongside the toile, we created a bespoke crest, which appeared prominently on the table plan and other key pieces.

Most memorably, the toile was scaled up and transformed into a bespoke tablecloth for the sweetheart table, a detail that felt so meaningful Kat & Zac have kept it as an heirloom. It was the perfect example of how bespoke wedding invitations can evolve into a complete design story, weaving through every touchpoint of the celebration.

On-the-Day Stationery

The stationery story continued seamlessly into the wedding day. The orders of service were lined with the toile on the inside cover, while the bespoke crest crowned the table plan. Rounded, die-cut menus – inspired by Wedgwood and Spode – carried the tactile beauty of letterpress to each place setting, paired with handwritten calligraphy place cards.

Additional touches included bar menus, table names, and signage for the portrait room, each printed with the same artisanal craftsmanship. The result was a suite of luxury wedding stationery that didn’t just complement the celebration, but became part of its design DNA: tactile, timeless, and created with the same attention to detail as the invitations themselves.

Design & Styling Cohesion

Working with Valentina at The Stars Inside, we made sure the stationery palette and motifs tied perfectly into the wider styling. Flourish & Grace’s florals reflected the blooms in the toile pattern, while soft blues and yellows echoed through linens, tablescapes, and décor.

The result was romantic, refined, and beautifully cohesive; stationery that felt at home against Brympton’s Elizabethan grandeur while also telling Kat & Zac’s very modern love story.

A Celebration of Family, Heritage and Joy

Kat & Zac are warm and gentle souls: elegant and sophisticated, but also full of fun. The day reflected that balance perfectly. It began with reverence: Kat’s mother seeing her daughter in her gown, Zac’s father remembered in the service. Then it unfolded into pure joy, with music, laughter, and fireworks lighting the Somerset sky.

With most guests flying in from overseas, the day carried an extra layer of excitement, a celebration not only of Kat & Zac’s love, but of family and friends coming together for a truly destination experience in one of England’s most beautiful settings.

For me, the greatest privilege was seeing how their stationery became more than just paper. From heirloom save the dates to a bespoke toile tablecloth, these were pieces that told a family story: treasured keepsakes from a wedding that was every bit as heartfelt as it was beautiful.
